CALCINED ROSE

Fate pointed me to you, gave me the ecstasy and the agony of meeting you
I tasted the bittersweet taste of your existence
Until now unknown to me, plus a lot of unexpected gifts

I thought I deserved all this whirlwind of emotion. I let myself be carried away by the light you emitted. Nothing seemed to corrupt you.
I dreamed that I reached you and my hands held yours, the world seemed so happy. The air smelled of red roses, valuable inspiring perfume.
But the war is cold, a shot fell near me, my eyes opened. And what was so beautiful was really a battlefield.

The smell of gunpowder flooded the environment
An amber-red stage stretched on the floor
I tried to leave but I tripped with the inert bodies
I ran but there was a concrete wall that prevented me from leaving

I did not want to stop but I wanted to save my life
I wished I was not here anymore, I squeezed my ears with my hands

The darkness made me tremble
Nobody listened to my inner scream, I was cold
My body lay on the ground, my eyes looked at that gray cloud
While a small petal of calcined rose fell gracefully on my face.
Then my eyes closed.
